Passe-partout

Passe-partout (French term for “a mat”)framing style has been used since the 16th century, originating in France.

The method involves using a mat board with a central cutout and 45-degree bevel cut window, which allows the artwork to be framed without touching the glass.

This technique can also add depth and dimension to the artwork and provide a visual separation between the art and the frame, also avoid casting shadows on the artwork.
